WorldCereal global wheat and maize crop calendars available

At the heart of the automated WorldCereal processing system, the crop calendars for wheat and maize define start and end of the different growing seasons. These dates are the triggers to start our EO data preprocessing, classification and delivery of the WorldCereal products.

Towards global agriculture mapping on a seasonal basis

One of the main requirements of WorldCereal is to dynamically map global agriculture. In contrast to other products that give an estimation of the agricultural land per year or averaged over three years, WorldCereal maps global agriculture on a seasonal basis. But how to define these seasons and which seasons do we take into account?

Building on work performed by FAO, JRC, GEOGLAM-crop monitor, the WorldCereal team has created global crop calendars for wheat and maize, the two target crops of WorldCereal, to define start and end of the different growing seasons.
